Shellac Manicure/Gel Polish Manicure

Shellac Manicure/Gel Polish Manicure

Golden Mist Nail Design is committed to quality and working only with the top-quality nail brands which are made in Europe and have European Health Certification including ISO and MSDS. Gel polish offers amazing quality and range of colors and has several different styles you can choose from. Gel polish can be applied on natural nails, acrylic nails, or gel nails in full color. For French style we recommend using gel colors which will be described under the Gel section.

All Shellac/Gel polish colors can be removed by soaking them in 100% acetone or 70% alcohol for 15-20 minutes. Shellac/Gel polish colors must always be cured under UV/LED nail lamp to dry. Durability of a Shellac/ Gel Polish Manicure ranges from 2 to 4 weeks based on a personal lifestyle, material quality, and nail health. It is recommended to redo Shellac manicures every 3 weeks however this greatly varies from one client to another.

Gel polishes are also often referred to as Shellac manicures, which is incorrect. Shellac is a brand of gel polish from the manufacturer CND, and like Kleenex, has become synonymous with all brands of gel polishes.

Important – if you wish to remove Shellac/Gel Polish Nails you MUST either let a professional do it or do it yourself at home following these steps:

  • Soak cotton pads with 70% alcohol (or acetone).
  • Place a cotton pad on each nail and wrap it around your nail with a piece of aluminum foil.
  • Wait 10 minutes, then twist off the aluminium foil and cotton pads.
  • Wipe your nails down again with the remover, and you’re good to go!

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PEEL THEM OFF!!

NAIL ART

Nail art is the latest example of personal body art to hit the beauty salons and catwalks. It’s another instance of how a woman gets to enjoy art in her everyday life.

Nail art embraces any technique of decorative art applied to fingernails, including various overlays of nail polish or UV gel, or hybrid coatings like Shellac. It can also involve artificial nails or extensions. Other decorative techniques include water marbling and stenciling, freehand drawing, and sugaring.

Nail surfaces can be decorated with a wide variety of colours, glitters, patterns, and textures. Unusual “effects” include the “caviar effect”, marked by tiny microbeads; and the “Thermochromic effect”, in which the color changes according to the temperature. In addition, there are hundreds of different adhesive stickers, while other items like fake rhinestones can also be applied to customize nails.

UV BIO Builder Gel Nails

First thing is first – if it does not look like gel or it is not a jelly texture it is NOT gel. For years I have been having clients come to me saying that they have been doing Gel nails for many years, but the gel looked like a POWDER. Solar Gel, Dipping Powders etc are all made up fancy names to charge you more for the price of a simple acrylic powder.

The gels do not have the unpleasant odor, like the acrylic powders have. Gels must be cured in the UV/LED lamps to dry. They are extremely flexible and have perfect adhesion. They strengthen the nail protecting it from outside influences which causes natural nails to grow freely without damage. Gels can be applied on the natural nail plate (so-called overlay) or they can be used to extend the nails (so-called gel extensions) to a desirable length and shape. Gel extension and overlays greatly improve the overall strength and health of the natural nails, they help with bad habits such as nail-biting or picking. Our salon uses the best quality gels available on the market and we do extensions exclusively with FORMS and without plastic tips, glue, dip powders or any such extremely dangerous products used elsewhere.

UV Bio Builder Gels come in many different shades of pink, milky, beige, nude, and clear. The durability of UV Bio Gel nails is somewhere between 4 to 6 weeks, however, please remember that nails grow and once the length of the gel nails becomes uncomfortable for you (after several weeks) a refill is recommended.

UV BIO GEL Nails cannot be soaked or removed at home as they require professional equipment and knowledge to remove them safely.

Pedicure

Pedicures vary depending on the spa and pedicurist, but you can usually find one perfect for you by the description on the menu.

  • Regular pedicure: a classic which includes cuticle cleaning, nail shaping, and callus cleaning.
  • Gel or Shellac pedicure: clear or coloured gel is bonded to your nails with UV light for a long-lasting glossy finish
  • Luxury pedicure: a whole-foot treatment usually including massage, foot scrub, and hot tub with Epsom salts which warm and soothes your feet as well as softening and hydrating your nails.

Acrylic Nails

To put it most simply, acrylic nails are a mix of powder and a liquid monomer that’s combined into a blob of dough, shaped onto your nails with a brush, and then air-dried. Acrylics do not require a lamp to cure, and they’re great for changing the shape or extending your nails as well. Acrylic nails are much harder than gel nails and are usually recommended for extremely long nails. Acrylic powders can be soaked in alcohol or acetone as well. If a client has hard and brittle nails, they need a product to help their nails be flexible enough to avoid nail breakage, especially at the extension edge of the nails then a gel is a better option. If a client has soft and splitting nails, they need strength, and we would use an acrylic product. If a client wants an overlay on their natural nail without an extension, the same rule applies. Each nails are individual and require different care and approach.

If your nails tend to break easily, you have a bad habit of biting your nails or you need them to look good for work, acrylic/gel/ acrygel nails are an easy alternative. The same is true for weddings, parties and other special events in our lives.

Durability 4-6 weeks, refills recommended after 4 weeks

NAIL CARE

One of the most important parts of maintaining strong, healthy nails for life is making sure you are getting a daily supply of vitamins, minerals, and other important nutrients to maintain nail strength. Any high-quality supplement will provide these for you in conjunction with a healthy diet. We offer 3 basic nail and skin protection products.

Cuticle Oil – Nourishes the nails in the growing zone, softens the skin. In case of artificial nails, it helps to neutralize the negative effects of chemicals.

Hand Cream – Refreshes and rebuilds dry skin. Perfectly penetrates without leaving any cream on the top of the skin. Available in Jasmin, Lily, Lavender scents.

Paraffin Wax – Paraffin wax is a petroleum-based wax that stores heat exceptionally well and has great hydrating effects on skin. The heated wax forms a coating over the surface of the skin that increases blood flow to the skin and opens up pores to allow hydrating emollients to penetrate the dermis while also stimulating detoxification.

EDUCATION

Essential Information

While most programs are part of certificate programs, associate degree programs in cosmetology also include some coursework in nail care and are suitable for individuals who also want to provide skin care and hair styling services. Depending on the state, individuals completing the training usually need licensure in order to practice as nail technicians or general cosmetologists. Those in an associate program in cosmetology complete additional coursework in haircutting, hair coloring, skin care and hairstyling.

Common topics covered in these courses are:

  • Manicures and pedicures
  • Infection control
  • Ethics of business management
  • Salon operation
  • Licensing requirements

Both nail technician and cosmetology programs usually include hands-on training working with clients at a salon. Individual courses also include labs that teach students to perform various nail care services, and in the case of cosmetology programs, hair and skin care services as well.

List of Nail Technician Courses

Safety and Sanitation

A nail technician works with tools to file, clean and cut nails on a people’s hands and feet. As such, a safety and sanitation course is a one of the key parts of a nail technician program. This course provides techniques for proper sanitization and cleaning of tools and work stations. This class may also cover state regulations for sanitary work space and tools when necessary.

Manicure Course

A manicure is the process of taking care of someone’s nails and hands. This can be done through massage, trimming and shaping the nails and cuticles around the finger nails. A manicure course covers basic manicure techniques of nail cutting and filing. Additional topics may be covered to discuss spa manicures, paraffin baths, arm and hand massage, and hot oil manicures. This is a course taught by lecture and applied learning.

Pedicure Course

A pedicure is the process of taking care of someone’s feet through massage and nail shaping. Similar to a manicure course, a pedicure course covers topics in basic pedicure techniques. Specific areas of study include foot massage, spa pedicures, feet wraps and paraffin baths. This is a course taught by lecture and hands-on practice.

Tips, Fill-ins and Repairs

Classes in this category teach students to work with artificial nails, specifically acrylic nails. Students learn how to apply acrylic nails on top of the natural nail bed or nail tip. As a part of this process, students also learn how to fill in the area between the real and artificial nail so that it appears blended. This course also covers topics in how to properly remove artificial nails or fix natural nail cracks with artificial components. This is a course that provides hands-on learning and practice.

Nail Art, Paraffin and Aromatherapy

It is typical for a nail technician program to offer some of these areas of study as additional options. Nail art is the process of using polish, paint and other decorative elements on the nails. Paraffin treatments are used in both manicures and pedicures and consist of using hot paraffin to improve the skin or as therapy for conditions such as arthritis. Some nail technician programs will even offer topics in aromatherapy, reflexology or massage.
